Winter can feel long, but what better way to lift your spirits than by thinking and planning ahead to summer? Summer leisure programs are not only a great way to keep kids active and engaged, but they also fill up quickly, so it’s never too early to start planning!
Why Plan Now?
Summer camp registrations will open soon, and they tend to fill up fast. It can sometimes feel like a competition to ensure that the child you care for gets a spot, so we recommend being ready as soon as registration opens.
Camp Costs? No Worries!
If you’re concerned about the cost, there are several funding options available, including income-based and disability-specific funding. Apply early, as most funding needs to be approved before you can register for camp.
A Few Summer Camp Funding Assistance Options:
Steps for Planning:
1. Determine if camp is a good fit: Ensure that the child is ‘group-ready’ and can participate safely in the camp activities. Most camps require campers to be 4 years old or older.2. Find the right camp: Look for camps that match the child’s interests and support needs. Some options include inclusion programs with 1:1 support workers, specialized camps for children with disabilities and, inclusive philosophy camps where you can provide your own support worker.
3. Prepare for registration: Many camps fill up quickly, especially those that offer 1:1 inclusion support. Be ready on the first day registration opens to secure your spot.
